Snail-Mail Converts To E-Mail.

In ancient eras, people used animals to send messages. Pigeons were the mostly used animal for this purpose, as they have an excellent sensitive ability to find directions and their ways. That was the main reason to choose pigeons as the mode of communication by the people in the past.

Later, people used telegrams to communicate. There a short message was sent. But it was not succeeded. After that, man used postal ways to communicate. There people can transmit their messages via post.

People communicated with many difficulties and disturbances as the transportation and other facilities were not available in those days. But today the modern method and devices make communication easy and fast. As a result of the development of information and communication technology, anybody can communicate from one end to the other end of the world in a few seconds.

Electronic mail, called e-mail is a process, by which digital information can be sent, received, forwarded, and stored using a telecommunications network. E-mail was started in the late 1960s by the armed forces of the United States of America. The army or military officers were looking for a way that communications could be done in the event of a large-scale nuclear war. They needed a system that would be very decentralized, reliable, and fast. They came up with an e-mail.

In the early 1970s, e-mail was limited only to the United States forces, defense contractors, and universities doing defense research. By the 1970’s it had begun to spread more broadly within university communities. Further in 1990s, there was a spread in the use of e-mail in a wide range of academic, professional, and personal purposes too. Later in 2000, it was estimated; more than 25 million people throughout the world were using e-mail for their communication purposes.

E-mail is a way of sending a message from one computer to one or more computers around the world. First, you have to write down the e-mail address of the person that you are sending the message to. Then you compose the message. Then you push a button to issue a simple command to send the message. The computer system you are connected to will break the message into tiny pieces and send them electronically to the destination, usually over common telephone lines. The pieces may travel through different routes to various computers on the way. Then, usually within two to three minutes, the pieces will arrive to the final destination, where the receiving computer will reassemble them into a message that can be read. The person receiving the message can then log in to his or her personal account at a convenient time and read the mail.
